Maui Emergency Management Agency moves into new operations center
The Maui Emergency Management Agency has moved into its new Emergency Operations Center in Wailuku, in the former Hawaiian Telcom building a block from the county building, where the agency had been based since it began.
The 9,355-square-foot center can hold up to 198 people during an emergency activation, nearly four times the old center’s capacity of 52, according to the County of Maui. Its operations room has rows of workstations facing a video wall of weather, satellite and mapping data. Mayor Richard Bissen called the move an important milestone for keeping the community safe.
