Effective October 23, 2026. This policy explains how News Hawaii gathers and publishes information, and the terms that apply when you use NewsHawaii.com (the “Site”). By using the Site, you agree to these terms.
1. Purpose of the Site
The Site provides general news and information about Hawaiʻi for informational purposes only. Content is provided “as is” and may change without notice.
2. Sources and attribution
Many stories summarize facts reported by government agencies, public records, press releases and other news organizations. Facts are not owned by anyone. When the same information is reported by several outlets, we treat it as common knowledge and write it in our own words without attributing it to any one outlet. When information comes from a single news organization, such as an exclusive, its own interview or a figure no one else has reported, we credit that organization by name and link to its reporting. We name government agencies when they issue alerts, orders or official figures. Quotes are always attributed. Where we quote another publication, we quote briefly, for purposes of news reporting, commentary and criticism, consistent with the fair use doctrine (17 U.S.C. § 107). All trademarks and source names belong to their respective owners, and their mention does not imply endorsement of or by News Hawaii.
3. Accuracy and corrections
We work to make our reporting accurate and current, but news changes quickly and errors can happen. We make no representation or warranty that any content is complete, accurate, current or error-free. When we learn of a significant error, we correct it and note the correction. Ongoing stories are updated in place and show the date and time of their latest update in Hawaiʻi Standard Time.
4. How our content is created
News Hawaii is both a news aggregator and an original publisher. Many of our stories bring together and summarize reporting from government agencies, public records and other news organizations, crediting any information that comes from a single outlet. We also publish our own original articles, explainers and editorials. Ongoing stories are kept on a single page that we update as news develops, with the newest information at the top and earlier details preserved below.
Like many modern newsrooms, we use emerging technologies to help monitor sources and organize information. Our editors review stories before publication. You should verify important information with official sources.
5. Not professional advice; emergencies
Nothing on the Site is legal, medical, financial, investment, safety or other professional advice. Do not rely on the Site for emergency information. In an emergency, call 911 and follow instructions from official authorities, including the National Weather Service, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency and your county emergency management agency. Ocean, weather, volcano and road conditions can change faster than any news report.
6. Opinion and editorial content
Content labeled Editorial or Opinion reflects the views of its author and is not a statement of fact. Statements of opinion are protected expression and should not be read as factual assertions about any person or organization.
7. Third-party links and content
The Site links to websites and content operated by others. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party sites, their content, their privacy practices or their availability. A link is not an endorsement.
8. Advertising, sponsorships and affiliate links
The Site may display advertising, sponsored content and affiliate links. We may earn a commission when you make a purchase or booking through some links, at no extra cost to you. Paid and sponsored content is labeled. Advertisers do not control or review our news coverage. We are not responsible for products or services offered by advertisers or affiliates.
9. Copyright and removal requests
Content on the Site, including text, design, logos and photographs, is owned by or licensed to News Hawaii and is protected by copyright law. You may share links to our stories. You may not republish, sell or commercially exploit our content without written permission.
We respect the rights of others. If you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright, send a written notice that includes: (a) your physical or electronic signature; (b) identification of the copyrighted work; (c) identification of the material you believe infringes and its location on the Site; (d) your contact information; (e) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent or the law; and (f) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf. We will review and respond to valid notices promptly, including by removing or disabling access to material where appropriate. Contact details for notices are coming soon.
10. Submissions
If you send us tips, photos, comments or other material, you confirm that you have the right to share it and you grant News Hawaii a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, edit and publish it in connection with the Site. We are not obligated to publish or return any submission.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR FREE OF ERRORS OR HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEWS HAWAII, ITS OWNERS, WRITERS, EDITORS AND PARTNERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON THE SITE OR ITS CONTENT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. YOUR SOLE REMEDY FOR DISSATISFACTION WITH THE SITE IS TO STOP USING IT.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless News Hawaii and its owners, writers and editors from any claims, losses or expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising from your misuse of the Site, your submissions or your violation of these terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaiʻi, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Hawaiʻi, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy at any time by posting a new version on this page. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated policy. If any part of this policy is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
