News Hawaii is written by local Maui writers and truth seekers who believe Hawaiʻi deserves news that is fast, fair and true.
Who we are
We live here. We shop at the same stores, drive the same roads, check the same surf reports and worry about the same storms as our readers. That’s why News Hawaii puts residents first: the news that affects your family, your job and your island comes before anything else.
We’re based on Maui and cover all of Hawaiʻi: Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi Island, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.
What we believe
- Truth first. We report what we can verify, and we say clearly what is still unknown.
- Community first. We cover the stories that matter to people who live here, not just the ones that get clicks.
- Credit where it’s due. When other journalists and agencies break a story, we name them and link to their work.
- Plain language. No spin, no filler. Just what happened, why it matters and what comes next.
- Aloha. We treat the people and places we cover with respect.
How we work
Every day we follow official sources such as the National Weather Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, county and state agencies, as well as reporting from news outlets across the islands. We bring the important facts together in one place, explain them clearly, and link to the original sources so you can read more.
Ongoing stories, like volcanic activity, wildfire recovery and hurricane season, live on a single page that we update as news develops, so you always know where to find the latest.
Read our Editorial Policy for more on how we source, correct and publish stories.
