Kauaʻi park, trail and lookout updates: Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe, Nāpali and Hāʻena, beach parks, closures and reopenings, for residents and visitors.
Waimea Canyon Lookout reopens; Kōkeʻe and most state parks still closed
The Waimea Canyon Lookout reopened Saturday during daylight hours, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources said. It’s the only part of the park open: the Puʻu Hinahina, Puʻu Ka Pele and Puʻu o Kila lookouts stay closed while crews clear Hurricane Lowell hazards and restore utilities. Only parking fees are being charged; entry fees are waived.
Kōkeʻe State Park, the rest of Waimea Canyon State Park and all other Kauaʻi state parks remain closed to visitors and camping. Anyone who lost camping or lodging days to the closures will get refunds in two to three weeks.
Separately, the county will close the Poʻipū Beach Park parking lot Oct. 26 to Nov. 6 to remove storm sand and do maintenance.
What to do: Check the DLNR State Parks “Important Park Notices” page before you drive up, since closures can change.
