Kauaʻi Museum Heritage Jamboree celebrates the island’s cultures

The Kauaʻi Museum’s Heritage Jamboree runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Līhuʻe, with stations from many of the cultures that make up Kauaʻi, including Native Hawaiian, Samoan, Marshallese, Tahitian, Okinawan, Fijian, Tongan, Filipino and Japanese.

Visitors collect lei materials as they go from station to station. The day opens with an oli by Kumu Hula Anolani Higashi, followed by kahiko hula. Food vendors include a Kaiola Canoe Club Hawaiian plate fundraiser and Filipino food from St. Raphael Church. Admission is free.

What it means: It’s a free family day and a chance to support local fundraisers as Kauaʻi recovers from Hurricane Lowell.
