Kapaʻa DMV reopens Nov. 4 by appointment only
The Kauaʻi County DMV will reopen at its Kapaʻa office Wednesday, Nov. 4, by appointment only. Booking opens Monday, Nov. 2, at kauai.gov/DMV. Services have been unavailable since the Sept. 9 fire at the Kāpule Building at the Līhuʻe Civic Center.
The Kapaʻa office, at the Kapaʻa Armory on Kahau Road, will run at limited capacity with no walk-ins. Early appointments are expected to go to people whose licenses and IDs expired during the closure. It offers vehicle registration and title work, license and state ID production and commercial license renewals, plus permit and road testing starting Nov. 4. The county is preparing the Gather space in Līhuʻe as a temporary DMV site but has set no date.
Meanwhile, the County Council on Wednesday approved the county pursuing insurance payments up to its $25 million coverage limit for the Kāpule Building, Kauaʻi Now reported. Officials said rebuilding would cost more than the insurance covers; the total is undetermined.
What to do: Renew registrations online or at a kiosk to keep appointments open for people with no other option. Questions: 808-241-1949.
