Hawaiʻi gas prices: the statewide average and the latest prices in Honolulu, Kahului, Līhuʻe and Hilo, updated weekly.
Statewide average: $5.62 a gallon. Regular unleaded rose 5 cents in a week, according to AAA, and is $1.14 higher than a year ago, second-highest in the nation behind California. Island averages: Honolulu $5.54, Kahului $5.71 and Līhuʻe $5.87. AAA pointed to higher crude oil prices.
Why gas costs more in Hawaiʻi
Fuel has to be shipped in, the state has a single refinery, and smaller markets mean less competition. Neighbor island prices usually run higher than Honolulu’s.
