Farmers can apply Nov. 2 for $1,500 storm relief
Hawaiʻi farmers and ranchers hurt by hurricanes Lala, Lowell and Moke can apply for up to $1,500 in state relief starting Monday, Nov. 2.
The Emergency Farmer Relief program covers farms, orchards, ranches and similar operations with affected agricultural land, from Niʻihau to Nāʻālehu. The governor’s office, the Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity and the Department of Accounting and General Services are running it. Money can go toward repairing infrastructure and replacing damaged or destroyed equipment.
The online application portal, linked from dab.hawaii.gov, accepts submissions until Jan. 29, 2027. Funds are limited, so if more eligible applicants apply than there is money, applications will be handled first come, first served. The department hopes to have checks ready for pickup in mid-January. About 1,300 members of the agricultural community received help after the Kona low storms earlier this year.
What to watch: Apply early because funding is limited. Questions can go to the department at 808-973-9560 or dab.info@hawaii.gov.
