10th travel-related dengue case of 2026 confirmed on Maui
The Hawaiʻi Department of Health confirmed a new dengue case on Maui, bringing the state’s total to 10 this year. The person was infected while traveling, and no link to earlier Hawaiʻi cases was found.
All 10 cases this year involved travel to Pacific Island countries and territories. Dengue is not established in Hawaiʻi, but the islands have mosquitoes that can spread it. Health teams are inspecting the area and doing mosquito control, and the department says the risk of local spread is low.
What to do: Empty standing water around your home, and if you travel to areas with dengue, use repellent and long sleeves, and see a doctor if you get a fever after you return.
